Chicken pox is a seasonal, highly contagious disease caused by varicella virus. This virus belongs to the herpesviridae family. Although its symptoms are mild, the attention is meager to prevent its dispersal. Varicella virus proportion is high in developing countries because of the rapid spread between students as a result of indirect contact with instruments and secretions of a patient, droplets and airborne diffusion of vesicular fluid. Aim: This study aimed to find out the prevalence of Varicella in Nineveh province sectors from 2005-2018. Our statistical analysis was brought out from all sections of the province. Results: In the last decade, the number of cases has been increased in Iraq due to lack of health awareness in addition to the lack of vaccine. To reduce number of infections, it is necessary to follow up the patients and detect the virus mutations. Conclusion: Isolation of patients may decrease virus spreading. Moreover, using of the novel methods for diagnosis are more significant as well as assign of the clinical features

    Get PDF
This paper reports on a study analyzing recent trends, pattern and prospects of the foreign direct investment (FDI) in Malaysia in the post-1997 financial crisis period. Among the ASEAN-4 countries, Malaysia continues to remain as the main centre for attracting FDI.The macroeconomic variables such as GDP, exports and employment are found to be positively influenced by the growth of FDI in Malaysia. To enhance the positive effect of FDI on the growth process of the Malaysian economy the flow of FDI into export-oriented sector and use of domestic inputs by the foreign oriented firms need to be encouraged. It is suggested that for sustained flow of FDI, continual price stability, macroeconomic balances, good governance and economic liberalization reforms are crucially important in the country. In the event of declining inflows of FDI, Malaysia has to shiR towards inward looking policies and search other alternatives to sustain its growth and economic prosperity by seeking more investment oufflows as a global player

Abstract. The paper analyses the pattern of career choice among the fresh recruits in multinational corporations. The paper finds that competence skills that are required within a borderless corporation tend to positively influence the employee satisfaction and expectation at the early stages of his/her career. The work environment prevalent at such peculiar and dominant corporations usually exceeds developing country corporate practices that are common within a local market landscape. We finally find that globalization favors the work culture to the benefit of its employees. Keywords. Globalization, Career strategies, MNC.JEL. F60, F63, F66

Arthropod Resistant Tomatoes: Screening Tools, Yield and Nutritional Quality of Interspecific Hybrids

    Get PDF
Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is one of the most economically important vegetable crops grown around globe but is a host for numerous pests and pathogens. In the future, tomato breeders will have to focus on increasing fruit quantity and on enhancing pest resistance. Many accessions of the wild relative of tomato, S. habrochaites display high levels of resistance towards arthropods such as spider mites. The presence of the sesquiterpene hydrocarbon, 7-epi-zingiberene, found in S. habrochaites type IV trichomes has been associated with arthropod resistance. However, the presence of other compounds in its trichome secretions may also be related to arthropod resistance. One goal of this research was to evaluate the potential for using a spectrophotometer to enable accurate selection for 7-epi-zingiberene content by breeders. Another objective was to identify and evaluate the relative antixenotic activities on spider mites of major components present in the trichome secretions of a wild tomato. The third objective was to evaluate yield, 7-epi-zingiberene content and fruit nutrient quality in advanced interspecific hybrid lines to demonstrate that high yield and high zingiberene content have been successfully combined, and also to evaluate nutritional aspects of fruit quality of these hybrids such as phenolic content, lycopene, soluble solids, and ascorbic acid. Results for the first objective included identification of two novel compounds present in wild tomato trichome secretions as hydroxy-zingiberene and 9-hydroxy-10,11-epoxy-zingiberene. The spider mite repellency of each of these compounds was at least five times greater than that of 7-epi-zingiberene. The results for objective two showed that a spectrophotometer could be a very valuable tool for aiding selection of plants having high levels of 7-epi-zingiberene on their leaves and having low levels of other compounds such as monoterpenes, which are present on arthropod –susceptible tomato plants. Completion of the third objective indicated that high yield has been successfully combined with high 7-epi-zingiberene concentration and that the nutritional value of the fruit in the hybrids is at least equal to the recurrent parent and in some cases, the interspecific hybrids may be useful for improving tomato fruit nutritional content including: phenolics, lycopene, soluble solids, and ascorbic acid. In general, the phenolic content of interspecific hybrid tomatoes ranged from 325 to 427 μg/g fresh fruit, lycopene content ranged from 31 to 66 μg/g and soluble solids ranged from 4 to 7.8%, whereas those characteristics were lower in cultivated tomato hybrids. Ascorbic acid typically ranged between 483 and 498 μg/g fresh fruit in interspecific hybrids and was higher than that in cultivated tomato hybrids (337 μg/g). For future prospects, it may be possible to breed genotypes that have high yield, have improved nutritional value and are also resistant to arthropod pests

This paper explores geo-spatial analysis of rainfall variability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan. The concern region lies in the north-west of Pakistan and frequently faced the challenges of floods each year. This is an attempt to find out the rainfall trend and fluctuation which is one of the prime indicator of climate change. For this study, the daily rainfall data comprises of almost five decades (1975-2015). For achieving the study objectives, daily, monthly and mean annual rainfall data were analyzed using Mann-Kendall and Standard Deviation combined. Additionally, to further process the rainfall data spatio-statistically, GIS technology has been applied. The analysis specifies that a positive rainfall detected in the meteorological stations of Peshawar, Dir, Chitral, Drosh, Kakul and Saidu, whereas the moderate rainfall trend is detected in Cherat, Bannu, and Balakot. The remaining stations expressed no obvious trend, due to low time period of data

Pushover analysis of reinforced concrete structures applied to blast load using different plastic hinge models

    Get PDF
The current work developed a modified pushover method using the Dynamic Load Factor DLF concept to give reasonable results compared to the more complex and time-consuming method (i.e., the non-linear time history method). A charge of 100 kg TNT is assumed to explode at different stand-off distances to cover the three blast design ranges of the (UFC 340-02) Code. The values of (DLF) were checked by applying them to the value of the blast load at the stand-off distances range between (10-70m). The results of the modified pushover method approached that of nonlinear time history with differences not exceeding (11.8%) and (4%) for maximum displacement and shear force, respectively. The DLF was suggested to be constant and equal (2.5) for the (high-pressure) design range and (1) for the (very-low pressure) design range. A formula was proposed for the (low-pressure) design range to simulate the descending values from (2.5) to (1). The prior plastic hinge models proposed by other researchers (Hawraa 2019 and Samer 2020) were used to explore the more realistic structural response to blast loads compared to the standard model of ASCE41-17. Both models of the plastic hinge demonstrated a Collapse Prevention (CP) performance at the (high-pressure) design range. However, the ASCE model indicated that more columns failed in this range. Considering the ASCE 41-17 and proposed approaches, the building performance at the (low-pressure) design range corresponds to the CP and Immediate Occupancy (IO) categories. Some plastic hinges were found when using the proposed plastic hinge model, but the number was nearly identical to that obtained using the ASCE method. The structure did not go beyond the elastic behavior if the proposed plastic hinge model is used in the (very low-pressure) design range. In the same design range, the structure performance lies within the (IO) category concerning the ASCE model. Generally, the suggested plastic hinge approach has been deemed sturdy due to being developed using the blast load and considered more dependable than those of ASCE41-17, which is acceptable for seismic events
